As most of you who know me, know that back in March i had a bad health scare regarding an Enlarged Prostate which put me into hospital and with me ending up being Catheterised.
Well last Tuesday 10th i went into Hospital to undergo a procedure called a TURP. This was carried out on the Tuesday and i had my Catheter removed last Thursday to see if it was now possible to Pee without any aids. When the Catheter came i then caught Sepsis. During the cause of Thursday night i went through what can only be described as hell. I got the Rigors quite bad, this is when your body starts to uncontrollably shake violently my Blood Pressure dropped to 78 and i was karted off to ICU at around 4.30am Friday here i underwent a bit a Frankenstein procedure where the put a central canular line into my Jugular this was around 6 inches long and fed me with around 4 different types of fluid and Antibiotics, i also had a line put into the main Artery in my wrist again around 6 inches long to live monitor my blood pressure.
I came out of ICU on Saturday and i got released from Hospital with a Catheter yesterday. I have to go back to see about self Catheterising next Monday but now looks as though at the Age of 57 i will have to use a Catheter of some sort for the rest of my life.
I would just like to say that anyone who is over 50 and has any type of Urinary issues that they are just putting up with then DONT get to the Doctors and get it checked out or you could end up like me.

Wow Bill, not sure what else I can say other than well done for getting through that lot. Sounds horrendous what you've been through, just glad you're still with us! I hope you have a speedy recovery from here :)

Bloody hell Bill, you been through it mate, glad your on the mend, funny enough had to call the doc out last night, got home from work in agony in my lower left side and stomach, have never felt so much pain, came in waves but knocked me off my feet, anyway she told me I had a upper urinary infection, loads of cranberry juice and the pain stopped during the early hours this morning, docs booked for 11:20 this morning.

Jim make sure you get i checked properly as a Urinary Infection can be the main cause of Sepsis.

That's a very scary time you've had Bill. They resort to ICU only in the most serious situations, but when needed it is the NHS at its best.
Really hope you recover very soon.

Glad you shared that. Not everyone would want to or feel the need to. But I'm a big believer in dealing with health stuff how the patient needs to deal with it. Personally I share a lot of stuff although mine has thankfully been typically mental health only - depression.

By writing about that you may help another individual. I certainly hope that's been the case when I share my stuff. And hopefully it's of some relief to dump that lot down and look back at relief you're still here to tell the tale. Again, that's something I feel has been worthwhile for me.

I hope you make a good recovery.

That is my sentiment also. If what is put can prevent what i have been through for only one person then it was worth while sharing.

I have to admit the Staff at Derby Royal were excellent my only criticism is that the NHS as a whole is let down by putting too much onto the inexperienced Junior Doctors as this is the only area i had any issues with. The Nurses were trying to get things moving quicker but the attitude of the Juniors was a case of i am the Doctor dont tell me. For instance when i was diagnosed with the infection i was told by the Registrar that i will be getting hit ASAP with Antibiotics and having a Catheter reinstated 3.30pm The Nurse who is trained to insert 2 way Catheters asked if she could put this in and was told no it had to be a 3 way and i could not have the Antibiotics till the Catheter was in place. 5pm the Nurse off her own back started me on the Antibiotics and it was 8pm when the Doctor came to insert the Catheter for us all to find out she just put in a 2 way which the Nurse could of done at 3.30pm. So i may of ended up worse than i would of done if they had listened to the Nurse and let her do her job. The Nurse told me this happens all the time and the Juniors do not take any notice of them.

Don't forget mind that some junior doctors can have upwards of 10 years experience. Doesn't sound like that was true in your case though.

Sorry to hear this Bill, you have certainly had your fair share of problems with this. I count myself very lucky to have reached my age with no problems of that kind. I hope things settle down for you now.
On a lighter note:
1st full day back home and now time to clean the Z. That is the best therapy for any illness
Apart from driving it.

Wow Bill, you have been through the mill, sorry to hear your story. Sound like you can only get better from here though.
It was only yesterday while chatting with Bozzy that we said you've been quiet recently on the forum, now we know why.
Shame about driving the Zed but if you like when you've cleaned her I'll come over and take her for a little pootle round;).
