Tappet noise was vastly improved when the Solara and facelift Alpines came with 1600 engines.

I put a 1.6 into a bagheera.
All Simca's other transverse engines, 1118,1204,1294 and 1442 all bolted to the same bell housing. 4 bolts. When I found a solara 1.6 I thought it would be the same. The 2 bolts at the top lined up and one of the bottom ones too. The 4th was around 1/4 inch out. Why did they do that? So I drilled open the hole and but a big&nut and bolt through.
Car went like the clappers but I didn't feel comfy with that bolt bodge and just never finished the rest of the car. I had it sprayed porsche guards red and I waxoiled everything so it should have lasted a few years. But I just never got it on the road. Wonder where it is now.

That little (Porsche?) gearbox they used was a little gem to swap.

Y'know. I don't know about it being porsche. But you're not the first person I've heard saying that. So maybe there is something in that.
