What zephyr said.

I think he's been spinning you a yarn about what was wrong with it even though he'd never actually looked at it.

Last thing he wants is somebody else looking at it.

I'd agree with this - you have time and money already invested in him, and he's relying on that principle and that you dont feel like paying him, even though its not fixed, to then move it and pay someone else to do the work.

Personally I'd cut my losses tell him you're collecting the car to take somewhere else - but do it correctly. He's saying its stripped down but is it - until you see it, you dont know.

I certainly wouldnt trust him and work he does now, with how he's treated you tbh.

If he was confident and competent at doing the work, it would be sorted by now.

Good luck whatever you decide, Shelly

If the car went from not running to running and just needs an MOT in one day, then this wizard of mechanical engineering needs to be nominated for a Nobel.
So in half a day it went from "non runner because tming chain jumped a cog" to "it's on the ramp with chain off" to "failed MOT".

He is indeed a wizard.

On the other hand. Giving him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he started on it last week and just didn't tell anyone.

It all sounds very odd. @Shelly can you visit the garage to look for yourself as to what is going on?

Alan phoned the garage up yesterday morning, and said what is happening with Shelly’s car , he said he’s got all the bits off it and also the chain too and I’ll be working on it this week , so give me a couple of more days and it will be done . I couldn’t then say all the bits need to go back on it lol , so fingers crossed, my Z will be back home very soon 👍
What “bits” exactly? Has the garage diagnosed the issue @Shelly ?

Yesterday when I spoke to the garage, I didn’t think it would be home today to be honest 🥳
I’m just so happy I’ve got my Z back 🥳🥳🥳🥳

Beautiful Z!
You beat me to it! Yours is on the road before mine!!!
My Z was due it’s MOT today but the radiator blew yesterday as Chris was taking it home so he could pop to the MOT station first thing this morning…back to the drawing board and waiting for parts…sigh.
Have a glorious zoom around in Snow White 🏎

He said it had jumped 4 teeth
I’ve got a invoice to say what has been replaced 🥳🥳
I give up. 4 teeth? I don't know what engine it is but lets assume its the 2.5 then, if I'm not mistaken, the crank sprocket has 19 teeth? 360 degrees divided by 19, times 4 (teeth) give us 75 degrees at the crank shaft. 37ish degrees at the valves.

No way on this planet did it skip 4 teeth without significant valve damage.

But. As I said. I give up.

If you're happy then let's leave it at that.

Please ignore everything everyone, including me, has said and enjoy your zed. 🤞

Yep. I rest my case also.
Enjoy your car @Shelly.
(Pretty sure the car paid for the four new teeth the mechanic has in his mouth).
