As the title suggests this trip was very much unexpected. On Thursday night I saw the magnificent forecast over the weekend and knew I would be gutted if I didn't use this opportunity. My grandma was staying with a relative in Lancaster for that week, so I politely asked whether she would like to extend her stay there and do a Lake District road trip with me. She said yes! Hence, I made the 200 mile trip up to Lancaster on Friday with very little planned in terms of things I would like to do/ see.

I made a very cobbled together day 1 plan on Friday night and my Grandma and I hit the road at around 8am. We were just going to go with the flow!

Day 1

Kirkstone Pass + The Struggle - I did this route again on the way home because it only added an extra 15 minutes. Rather than engine braking down the steep, wide, 2 lane (rare here) Kirkstone pass I could now blast up it! Good fun as always.

Trip Stats:
700 miles total distance
39 mpg average on the motorway @ 65-70 mph (pretty proud of that tbf)

Notes to self:
Turns out the roof isn't sufficient when stationary on the M6 in blazing heat. I need my AC regassed.
The viscous performed perfectly and kept the car cool even up the very steep pass. I heard it working when stopped at the top of a pass after a hard run.

Overall:
Very different roads to Wales, this was much tighter, more challenging.
Weather was absolutely perfect ranging from 16-22 degrees when doing the bits in the Lake District, spot on.

Hope you enjoy,

Chris

Looks like a great trip. Taking your grandma on a trip like that is pretty special.

Brilliant Chris, been on quite a few of those roads and passes too over the years. You can't go wrong in the Lakes:thumbsup:

It would be more than special for me. Mine both died over 15 years ago! =))
