After good byes and hand shakings, we started „the long and winding road” back home. Over night we slept near Parma and at noon of Sept 29, we were in front of Miramar castle, in Trieste. An Austrian castle, made for the Archiduke Maximillian on a rock on the Adriatic sea shore. Surprisingly pics were allowed! So:

Every year my navigation system is making me a surprise
; some times taking me to breathtaking roads, some times leaving me in the middle of the traffic with „sorry, no signal”....This year the surprise came in Trieste: as you can see we left the car parked at level of the sea and after visiting the historical center I programmed the navy for the city of Ljubljana, direction Slovenian border. The navy choosed a narrow paved street , with small portions where you can stop to allow the other car to pass. Nice......but the problem is that the street start to climb on a slope of 20%, because we climb in 1900 m, from 2m to 400 m! There was no way to stop or to return and in the corners there were some frightening mirrors. We met 3 cars which were going downhill. Even now , remembering the driver’s faces, I can’t say if the street had „one way” and I was on the wrong way, or not! I have to use only the 1st gear! There are no photos of this street as my wife was keeping her breath, I think during the whole climb.
And above all that, when we start climbing, my red light of the tank came on and for the moment I couldn’t remember if it was due to the slope or I had really no petrol in the tank
! Ofcourse I kept this for myself as I could trigger a heart attack to my lady.....
And the navy was right :it was the shortest way despite the fact that I have set up the navy on „economical” mode!

Not many people know this.....but Trieste was given to the Italians by the British after the second world war.
The only regret of the trip (there must be one!
) is that we missed the beautiful roads, on the hills of Tuscany........it should be gorgeous at this time of the year......

Maybe if we skiped a day on the beach we could do it, but the temptation of the warm sun and water was to high........
I drove in this trip about 4600 km (3000 mi) and out of it 1200 km (800 mi)roof down. On the highways i drove 115-120 km/h and I got a good fuel consumption: 6.5 l/100km. Again I have the confirmation that the noise level in the car at 120km/h, is lower with the roof down!
I bought this car 5 years ago at 135.000 km and now, after some more 40.000 km , on scenery roads (and less highway), the car had no hesitation and I have the feeling it will run forever, if you cover it with common sense and love.......
I start to believe that the only sticker I will put on my Zed will be this one: as a sign of gratitude!
