Can finally see the point of this in track when you stand in the brakes but find the accelerator a bit far/low from the brake pedal and got me thinking about a thicker pedal (basically double up the pedal) to raise it a bit?

Or do I just need to practice more (hard to do on the way to office =))))

Any of you guys mastered the technique in these cars yet @Lee @Brian H @spurs fan in a coupe @Pingu @Julian Jeffrey

I do kind of. More for effect (I like to hear that blip as I gear down and brake) whether my technique would make any difference on a track I have neither tried or care but probably not.
I don't H&T rather I roll my foot from side to side, this is easier for me but of course the result is the same. I use the same technique on my 360.

I use rev matching. This is not the same as heel and toe.

I've tried H+T, and have never been able to do it properly. It's like riding a bike, but more serious when you fall off practicing.

I've seen it done well just once, but it was by a guy who was a regular trackday driver and he admitted to having crashed three cars when he was learning how to do it.

Good luck practising, just not near me, please:D

o_O really! it really isnt difficult with a bit of practice, though you do tend to slam the brakes on when you first try it so best choose a quiet stretch of road.

@Pingu I rev match all the time, so satisfying to do and one of the reason I’d like avoid a fly by wire car for as long as possible!

On track it’s happens so much quicker so whilst I can rev match being able to h+t just feels like it will be right.

@Brian H surprised you didn’t - was it because of the FBW?

@Nodzed what size feet do you have (serious question) and do you do it in moccasins (ala Senna - not so serious question, but footwear will assist things I guess)

Ps @Pingu what’s your address :coolsteer)

I agree. I wish that I could H+T when I'm on the track.

The difference between braking on the track and on the road is night and day.

Every speed reduction on the track is like an emergency stop.

I don't usually get more than an inch, or two, of front dip on the road, but I was getting double that on the track. I was then off the brakes to drop a gear, as a consequence the nose would rise again, immediately before the corner - the worst possible thing to happen.

It would be so much better to be able to drop down a gear during the braking phase. This would keep the weight on the front tyres and provide more front grip at corner entry.

The only advice I can give you is something that you probably already know - don't use your heel, use the side of your foot. The heel used to be used on cars that had throttle pedals pivoted at the top (like classic Mini).

I H+T or rev-match every shift for the smoother gear change, which is arguably beneficial all the time and not just on track, i.e. less drivetrain shock, although accepting modern gearboxes can withstand much more. The big floor-mounted BMW pedal also makes H+T very easy compared to other cars. It becomes second nature pretty quickly once you learn it:coolsteer)

FBW doesn't make any difference IMO:thumbsup:

Out of curiosity why did you come off the brakes to drop a gear, to rev match?

Had to search what FBW meant....Doh!

No not because of FBW, again if i'm being honest it is not something i have ever thought of doing or has ever come up in conversation whilst on track with others or instructors. I am curious now to see so will maybe give it a try.
