sometimes you can sort a deal out with your insurance company, when I crashed my bmw r1200, it was written off, we agreed a value, but I wanted to keep the bike, got a slightly reduced payout and kept the bike, maybe worth asking if they would be prepared to do this, even if you only used the car for spares

Yeah i made sure I asked at the start. Only cost me 180 to keep the car. Just need to ensure i get my excess back from the third party insurer

I did a similar deal back in 1983, when my Triumph Bonneville caught fire. I got £800 payout and bought the wrecked bike for £50. I did the deal with the assessor and the bike wasn't recorded as being wrecked. I rebuilt the bike to a good standard and intended to keep it, but a young family and new mortgage meant I had to move it on.

my r1200 was recorded as a cat b, parts only, I broke it down and sold virtualy all the parts on ebay, I ended up better off than if I had just sold it as an undamaged bike.

I had a Bonneville, a 79 t140, took my first trip to spain on it.

I ended up better off
Me too, sold the hardtop and fitting kit and tonneau cover, still have the type 1 wind deflector with turret mounts and locks and keys and the OEM boot rack and suit case, not in a rush to sell, as I will just wait until they are wanted by someone.
Sold the brick remotes, they went as donations towards the forum.

People tend to forget the age of these cars, they are, sorry to say, just a mass produced BMW.
No insurance company is going to pay out 1100 quid for a new bonnet, think about it..!

Just make as much money out of the insurance and parts as you can and buy a another one, as most models were mass produced..
Be interesting to see what Bad ///Boy would get back for his ///M with the same damage?

Must admit, the Dutch name on the side of the rescue truck is quit apt, if looked at with an English perspective....
