Rebody Oh no. It's not another 507 Rebody. Oh yes it is!

Sorry but that picture looks just the interior of a Z3 (cos it is). I know everyone is different but I just don't understand; why go to all the trouble (and expense) of changing a car to look like something else but it looking the same as it started on the inside.
I know it's up to the individual to do whatever they like, but I just don't get it and don't think I ever will.
To my mind this 'changing' a car to 'be' something else has to be all or nothing, or what is the point?
It’s probably no different to the RestoMod scene who put new running gear under an old body.
I’ve had a few compliments on how well my ‘new’ interior fits inside an older car, which shows people have no idea of what they are looking at!
Plus, I can use and enjoy the car now and have no stress about wiring harnesses 🤣🤣
And it is a Trubute, not a Replica which would need the interior completing
 
Currently playing with the VW hub caps to get that 50's 60's "Rudge" look. Have you seen the price of replica rudge wheels?

I don't think I'll do the faux spinners though. Looking at the big knockon hex centre nut idea instead. This is just a stuck on boot badge to cover the VW logo to see what it looks like. Hex nuts on order. I'll post another photo once it's all body colour with the hex nut. I like it though. Looks kinda correct.

Wheel appearance can make or break the look of a car. Take your time!!!
 
My only top tip on this would be don't try to make a copy of the original - you'll only be disappointed at the "misses" and not appreciate the "hits".

Make it your own and you won't care about the "misses" because they were your choice, not a "close, but no cigar" compromise.

I like the wheel in the photo - it's nice to see someone has manage to use period profiles. It will be interesting to know how the handling and ride are. I expect it will either be limosine smooth, or bounce like a kangaroo. Either is ok, as you can damp the bouncing, and you can live with poor cornering if it glides like a Silver Shadow :)

The tyre is just a test to see if it would fit. Profile is way too high. It's 205/70x16 on a 7J wheel. I also have a pair of 6.5J16 wheels with 195/65. I think they will be the ones I go for but still thinking.
 
You filled the small holes as well...nice. I like the spinners but may change mine for the 2 spinner style as I tweak 😎

How have you fixed the hubcap. I, like Dan had vw t5 wheel bolts machined down to fit

Currently it's 3 metal brackets clipped onto bolt heads. The bracket has a captive nut. 3 of the holes in the cap have screws through the cap into the bracket. The other holes in the cap just have the screw heads looking a bit like the Rudge rivets. Not finished though. Other ideas going round my head. I'll photo and post once I make my mind up.
 
But in the end. They are all Z3s underneath whatever we do to them. Always will be but as long as we understand and accept that then it doesn't matter.

I like everyone's Rebody attempts on here because they end up to be what we wanted and pretty unique cars.

However, I don't know if the languages in my videos will be automatically translated into English. If it doesn't, I will upload them manually. I ask for your interest.

Personally, I am a bit worried about having spinners. How tight do they need to be? You can't torque a rubber mallet, so it's all a bit of a guess.

Thanks. Yes. That's kind of the thing I'm thinking of. A guy on utube used something like your hub adapter to hold his cap on.

So he still has the wheel held on with 5 bolts. The spinner just holds his Rudge style cap on to hide the bolts.

It looks like the freedom for the wheel to steer or rock is only resisted by the small lip of BMW disc exposed beyond the white adapter.

I'd be testing that set-up with some very hefty attempts to rock the wheel before I trusted it.

It also looks like he's ground his calipers - so he's not averse to a bit of risk taking with safety components.
 
If were me.
I would have a piece of tube turned to fit tightly *inside* the hub Center, secured by four grub screws. Access to them would be a bugger though. Stepped,with the outer hub centric so the wheel helps to stop it wobbling. Outer thread for a 3d printed cap/spinner. Handed, obviously so rotation keeps them tight. If the cap had round recesses for the nuts and the spinner/nut was separate that may be better.
Once the grub screws were initially fitted the witness marks could be enlarged with a dremel type tool to four dimples for better grip.

I've seen faux spinners for alloy wheels with that idea where your 'tube' slides inside the centre of the alloy wheel where the OE badge cap goes. Tube anchored with grub screws. That doesn't work with steel rims. But I never thought of using that idea on the hub itself. I didn't think there'd be enough of a lip. I'll look at that.
 
Another idea I need to test uses those little wheel nut covers. The VW cap expects bolts to be 19mm but bmw are 17mm. If I fit those bolt caps that'll increase the size of the bolt head and the VW cap could then just be knocked on using its own clips. I don't know how secure that would be though.

Believe me I didn't want to. The wheels won't fit over the 3 litre calipers without a little bit of 'help'. They have only a tiny amount taken off, just enough to clear the wheels.
