Agreed, I did mine even though there was no evidence of leakage. What you have to do though, and this is rarely mentioned, is to make sure the associated drainage channels are clear.Hi from Mansfield. I had the same issue with my A-pillars leaking when I bought mine 5 years ago. I pushed the triangular rubbers into the pillars and sealed them off with clear silicone. They have never leaked since.
Hi Liz, and welcome to the forum from from Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. .I replaced my soft top a few years ago and took some video while doing it. Part of that video shows where the drain holes are located and where they drain out. The car is a 96' 1.9L Z3. Here is a section of the video regarding the opening of the drain holes and where they empty out...............FrankieHi all,
I have just bought a 1999 Z3 and need some assistance with a couple of things:
Tyre size - what do you all recommend? I have had a look through the handbook and spoken to my local tyre garage but I'm still very confused. Am I to believe that I'm supposed to have different sizes of tyre on the front and back? It currently has 225/50/16 all round. The front end feels very wayward and doesn't handle as well as I thought. Any recommendations on which rubber to use?
Soft top care - I have located the drain hole on the passenger side and stuck a wire coat hanger through to clear BUT - it seems to stop on the sill (inside), where does the drain hole actually come out? And where is the one on the drivers side?
Any help/advice greatly received.
Many thanks
Don't leave it too long or you'll never get time to sample all of the wonderful beaches and cafes!Welcome Liz,
Looks like the best advice is forthcoming already
I'm up in Berkshire currently but my dream is to move to your neck of the woods one day.
Have fun in the car - I am and only had it a few months
Dave

PS. I didn't actually use a wire for the drain holes as they were not stopped up and drained freely..............

Try searching BMW Z3 Roof drains on YouTube. Amazing how much info is on there.Hi Frankie,
Top man! Thank you very much for the video - do you think the drain holes would be accessible with the roof on?
