I would like to have a look at the hardtop, if you have any pics.

Also, on a more general question to you or other members — is the hardtop mounted in a way that still allows the soft top to be installed (folded down, of course)? I am asking because on my Spitfire the hardtop is mounted over the soft top, that can even be under its tonneau cover.

Soft top folded down inside hardtop. I don’t have any pics as I bought it 7or 8 years ago and it’s been stored ever since lol and it’s not easy to get to ,but from what I remember there was a little chip out of the bottom lip very small and one of the rubber runners on the top was loose but if your really interested I’ll get my son over and get some pictures taken.thanks

Sorry @miller1098, but I am out of the race.

Having thought a bit more, I think waiting for a car with a better engine than mine, which has had the hardtop from start, is a better bet. I just found a few sobering tales related to trying to retrofit a hardtop when there was none there before.

Thanks for the photos, though.

There’s no problem retrofitting a hardtop, you just need to make sure the fitting kit is correctly adjusted, and then use the adjustments on the hardtop itself. BMW actually issued two sets of instructions. One set was for the dealers, so they could correctly install the fitting kit before a customer collected their new car. The second set was for the customer so they could check & adjust the hardtop each time they put it on. I have pdfs of them somewhere, bought for about £3 from eBay

Thank you @GZed, but although I like my car, it was a bit of an impulse buy without proper research. I just think that I might be looking for a more powerful engine (2.8 or 3.0) soon.

It's likely I will keep the current car for emotional reasons (was built 10 days before my daughter was born), but may not be worth the extra investment...

I actually have the official hardtop booklet that comes with the service pack if hardtop is order from new.
