Evening all ever since I've had my z4 3.0 e85 its had this weird gearbox chatter/knocking noise the noise only happens when the car is warm and goes away when the clutch is pressed down the gearbox shifts and performs great it's had a luk clutch kit and flywheel fitted and the noise is still the same the garage have told me its the input shaft bearing I've read the the e86 si zeds can suffer with this noise but has anyone had it on the e85 I'm ready to try another gearbox but I'm worried it will be the same how many have had the noise and have you just lived with it cheers all 😀

The diagnosis sounds plausible.

I'm surprised it chatters with everything standard.

Mine chatters, but I have a lightened single mass flywheel.
Cheers i trust the garage but a small part of me after doing some research thinks it can be considered normal but how much noise is considered normal is another story altogether lol

If you have access to a cheap gearbox, you had might as well replace it.

The old box needs to come out to inspect it. If a garage is doing the work, it would be cheaper for them to know they are swapping from the start of the job. The alternative would be to spend time diagnosing and repairing the old one. Repair is a cheap DIY option, but an expensive option for a garage.
