Not a good start Wendy, but on the other hand you've definitely got your moneys worth out of it. I would get Mark to check the inner of the other rear tyre going by the cords that are visible. When I changed my rears, both were showing the cords on the inside [as yours], but the tread looked fine on the outside due to the camber on the rears.
I'm sure he knows and apologies if he's already done it.

Nice, easily to get caught out with the rear tyres. I’ve had decent looking tyres with wear to the cords on the inner edge but lesson learned a long time ago. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
