Today I finally got round to using the ''tyre'' app that @Mint very kindly downloaded on to our lap top and patiently guided me through how to use it, thanks Dave .

For the maiden voyage using the app/sat nav I kept the route fairly short, just in case.........and took our trusty map .

So we went from ours, past Donington race track, Melbourne, Swarkstone bridge, Willington, over towards Abbots Bromley, Calton and across the reservoir to the picnic stop.

This is the reservoir with the bridge across it.

From there headed towards Uttoxeter, near Mint towers, across the A50 past the J.C.B factory to Ashbourne and Tissington tearooms for a nice cold drink before taking the scenic way home.

As good as the tyre app is, it did take us through a housing estate and told us to make a u turn twice for no reason :meh: but maybe that's down to who ever plotted the route and way points .

All in all quite impressed for my first go but obviously more to learn and it's something well worth having access to. It also saves Sara having to map read and navigate on the move :rally:, so more brownie points in the bank :highfive:.

Steve.

Well prepared for the journey! Good photos!

Thanks David, that picnic hamper box thing is excellent, it's insulated so keeps everything inside it as it should be.

My co-driver wants a picnic hamper to take with us on days out so I may get one. I didn't know you could fit all that into the boot!

We always use ours on these kind of trips and the little single burner camp stove is a gem to have, as is the little fold up table.
Taking your own food and drink gives you the freedom of choice to stop where you want, away from busy car parks etc.

I bought a very similar table for these type of days Steve, it arrived the day before we went over to the villa so only got to use it the other week at Clumber park when we all had a picnic dinner together. Very light and takes up little room too. I have a large insulated Snap-On tools bag for the food and drinks (wine at ZedFest as last year Sara !)
I must also get a 12v power point in the boot for my mini fridge sorted too.

Tony.

ps. Love the double "selfie" mate. Car's not too shabby either.;)

Cheers mate,i set the 10 second timer on the camera so had to get back to my pew quick sharp and try not to look flustered :depressed:.

You've given me a thought now, our Tom has a mini fridge in his room he could ''lose''. Not sure if it will fit in the boot though, might try it tomorrow ;).

I'll dig mine out of the heap on my bench in the garage tomorrow mate and show you it. I bought it years ago for use in my A4 Est. but never did. It came to mind a while ago and this time it will get used. It's a mains and 12v model. It's also a cooler/heater unit.

Sounds a very good bit of kit mate, will it fit in the zed boot though ?.
Tom's has a 12v socket as well.

We'll have a look tomorrow mate, and I'll get the dimensions. It's a small thing, holds 6 small tins or 4 large ones if I recall right, but obviously you can put other less important things in there !!!;)=))

Tony.

I have had two different sizes of the heater/cooler for years and they work great! I don't think the large one one will fit the boot but once I have my rack could be installed on that! Or just fill the suitcase with ice packs and beer/wine!! Yummmy! JIM

Ice packs are a cruisers friend no doubt Jim. :)

Looks similar to ours mate, not sure if it would be worth us using it for what we do at the mo. The insulated hamper basket is doing a sterling job so far.
If we were camping, it would be useful I guess.

How was the recce ?.
