    Revs drop occasionally when idling

Thanks. I have the 4 cylinder, so I don't think it has a VANOS. I replaced the air filter and cleaned out the idle valve and I haven't seen the issue since, so I'm hoping it's fixed.

    Revs drop occasionally when idling

I was driving the other day (after not driving for awhile) and the 1996 Z3 was going great. When I got home I put the car in neutral to open the garage door and noticed that the revs dropped from the usual ~800RPM to much lower and the car almost stalled. The revs then picked back up to ~1000RPM...

    Cross threaded seat mount

Phew! I purchased a tap and die kit and tried to re-tap the hole. Unfortunately the tap spanner was too wide and I couldn't turn it without bumping against the side of the car. After then getting a T-Style tap spanner I managed to re-tap the hole. The bolt now tightens all the way in with just...

    Cross threaded seat mount

Thanks for the advice Tony. I'll be sure to fit them all next time

    Cross threaded seat mount

I can't get to the bottom, it's all enclosed. I'll just have to try and do it from the top. Thanks for the advice about the HeliCoil. I'm glad to know I have a backup. I'm over in California at the moment so not close to you.

    Cross threaded seat mount

    Cross threaded seat mount

I was reinstalling the drivers seat and I managed to cross thread the threads in the car that the seat mounts to. I can now insert the bolt in what I think is the correct angle and hand screw the bolt down a few turns or insert the bold at an angle and turn it a few times as well. I was...

    Unable to change into gear

Got the car back with new clutch plates, a new flywheel and a replace shifter seal. Everything seems to be running well and the gear changes feel a little smoother then I ever remember them being.

    Unable to change into gear

Hey everyone, thanks so much for your advice, especially Frankie for talking to me. I remembered that last time I did the clutch I vowed that I would never change a clutch cylinder on my car again. So after bleeding it again with no change I gave up and took it to a mechanic. The mechanic said...

    Unable to change into gear

Hey Frankie thanks for the info. This is my current state (I'm partly just thinking out loud now :) ) - I don't think there is air in the system. I don't see how air could suddenly appear overnight. I have also bleed it since this happened and it didn't make a difference. It's possible this...

    Unable to change into gear

I did think about doing that, I don't really have space to do it safely though. Any idea how to diagnose a falling clutch? Is it possible that the it would just happen suddenly like this? I inspected the master cylinder today and everything looks fine to me, so I'm suspecting it's not the...

    Unable to change into gear

Ever since I've bought the car gears changes have been a little tough. Changing into first or reverse when stopped can be either really easy or take a fair bit of force. Normally if it didn't work the first time I would just go back to neutral and try again. Changing between first and second...

    Unable to change into gear

About one year ago (and 5000 miles) I changed the master cylinder, slave cylinder and clutch lines. Basically everything clutch related after the line that goes from the reservoir through the firewall. I bleed the lines and remember it not feeling 100% but after leaving it a day it eventually...

When does a Head Gasket need Replacing?

Hey Tony, thanks for the info. I had done some coolant pressure tests before and the pressure would always drop rapidly, which also made me think it could be a gasket issue. I just finished changing the water pump though I now see the pressure staying constant. I'm guessing that it is just some...

When does a Head Gasket need Replacing?

About one year ago I drained all of the coolant and replaced it with new coolant. I have recently replaced all of the cooling components that attach to the engine, including all the pipes, thermostat and water pump. Basically only the radiator hasn't been replaced. I then put a mixture of new...

Sealing the Right Angle Coolant Connector

Thanks for the info. After some more digging it looks like the radiator bleed screw does break and that isn't unusual. I'm thinking for the leak that I might try to gently push in the plastic pipe using a long spanner extension extender. I can't bring myself to take apart the whole thing again...

Sealing the Right Angle Coolant Connector

This wasn't the drain pulg though, it was the bleeder plug at the top of the radiator. I hope it also has the same issue

Sealing the Right Angle Coolant Connector

I don't remember it being too corroded when I took it out, but it's starting to sound like I have to do the job again to double check. Luckily I don't think the one at the back of the engine is leaking, as I don't see any moisture back there. I'm just dreading taking the bottom intake manifold...

Sealing the Right Angle Coolant Connector

I recently changed all of the plastic/rubber tubes/connectors for the cooling system and it appears that I have a leak. I manually pressurised the system today and it's unable to hold at 1bar for long. I managed to find 3 different connectors that must have been loose and tightened them pretty...

    Leaking Steering Rack

Wait really? I thought the steering wheel could just be adjusted. Either way, I'm not doing that again. I'll have to take it to a shop
