I've had the same problem with my 98 2.8. You can get the middle section but not the back of memory serves me correctly. You can get a custom one made but it will be dearer or look at stainless of your keeping the car for a long time.

Try ringing Quarry motors at Sheffield. They may well have a good used one in stock.

Did you have a look at this? It comes up when I search on my Feb 1999 2.8.

Not type approved. There is also one at £215, same place, also not type approved.

You could then add a cat back system from Powerflow or Custom Chrome.

Let us know how you get on. Mine is holding up at present but knowing where to source from and the results is always good.

Possibly not Bruce. There seems to be a couple of different ones. Do you have a link to what you've bought?

Just checked on Euro Car Parts again and I think Gaz is correct {he almost always is!!). It could be the more expensive one you would need, apologies for not noticing that, however, to make amends (hopefully) I checked on Realoem.

If you have twin down pipes going into a single cat the cheaper one is correct. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=CH32-EUR---Z3-BMW-Z3 2.8&diagId=18_0252.

It you have twin down pipes and twin cats followed by a short muffer section it is probably the more expensive one. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=CH32-EUR---Z3-BMW-Z3 2.8&diagId=18_0368.

My 1999 2.8 has manufacture date of Feb 1999 on the front drivers side strut tower and has the twin cat version.

Hope that helps.

well the one I ordered wasn't correct,as mine is the 1999 facelift but they are very good trying to locate one to exchange if they can find one..my next question is the exhaust a 2 part or 3 part..as the original is a 1 part..as I still need to source the back box ...or indeed a middle part and back box....hopefully when the next member has an exhaust prob with a similar model I can help him out..

We fitted an exhaust on a 2002 1.9 today, same as one we fitted on a X reg 1.9 a few weeks ago. A cut and shut just behind the cat.

Hi, if we're not too busy tomorrow I WILL try and find out for you.:) The ones I've just mentioned were originally a 1 piece system from the manifold to the tail pipe, hence why we call it a cut and shut,ie we make a joint in the system where there should not be one.

Tony.
