Thinking of going down to one car, anyone else sold up and done similar?

Working from home has made me rethink my car ownership journey. At present I have a mini collection of 4x "modern classics" and 2x daily drivers, of which I am only using one or two at a time as I keep them in storage. It feels like owning and driving is moving away from being a hobby and becoming almost a part time job; keeping them up and running, MOT'd, serviced, insured etc and I find myself having less and less time to actually enjoy driving them. One of the benefits, though, is that the classics are appreciating even while seldom used.

However, I have seen a few members have sold up and bought more modern vehicles to enjoy, so my question is, does anyone miss having a multicar garage/collection? I feel like I'd much rather sell them all and buy a Jaguar F-Type or Audi TTS/TTRS or some such. Or possibly finance something more exotic with warranty, since the cost of borrowing is relatively cheap at present. Anyhoo, hope you are all well and looking forward to summer!

We did this 3 years ago. Prior to that we always had 3 cars on the drive. 3 years back we could see our mileage was going to reduce as Grandaughter was off to Uni. At that time my X1e84 18d and wifes Nissan QQ were both doing 16,000 per year. Z3 on 3,000 miles. We traded the 2 cars and got a X1f48 20i. I still have the Z3 of course. It works very well for us,once she got familer with the Auto gearbox. We have never found it an inconvience removing 1 car from the drive. Go for ---if it does work buy another car..

I retired around 10 years ago , but when I was working we always ran wifes Freelander , my RangeRover and my company car , BMW 525d BMW 330d BMW 335d Bmw 335d then for a few month Jag X type 2.2. I rarely used my company car for pleasure as I was doing around 75,000 miles in work although it would get big mileage holiday trips (it was derv my RR was petrol). One year I collected a new 335d in the morning of the new reg plate , and we stayed in Beaune that night.

When I bought the Z4 I traded my VW Touareg against it and sold my Z3. Up till then we had the VW, the Z3 and Shirl’s Eos.

Lockdowns have been hard for multiple car owners. Lack of opportunity to go out for a blast and nowhere open to visit if you do, while the fixed cost bills keep coming in, makes you think I know. However, I have been stuck with just the one family-sized car in the past, but always miss that light airy open-top experience. Although my miles have dipped massively recently with both cars, I don't think I will go back to just one.

I have driven both open and fixed roof F-Types, V6 and V8, and they are far too much style over substance in my view (like a poor mans Aston), and that applies even more to the Audi TT. The Porsche is a good shout, I just don't like them though, hence the Z4.

What do you have in your collection?
I have the two Z's and until the weekend had a Merc C55 AMG and BMW E21 323 which I have now sold to a friend for his collection.

Monster mileage every year!

Not considered Boxster or Cayman, I'll have to take one for a drive. Had some seat time in a 991 Turbo S last year, but it had far too much power for a B road blast.

Did you find the Jags too refined?

I did have a 2016 TT Quattro a few years ago and it was a great car for the everyday and capable when pushing on, understeered a little on tighter roads and needed another 100 bhp or so, although steering feel was almost non existent.

That's interesting. What do you miss from the Z3? I do enjoy driving older cars for sure, but I also enjoy being able to relax and let the car take over on motorway stints. How did the F type compare to the Vantage and Boxster?
