took into removing the front panel and sills on the drivers side tonight (was the worst side)

As a whole the sill is in optimistically OK condition. The biggest problem is the Jack stands. To say they are bad is an understatement. Rotten clean out. Going to have to learn to weld it seems. Has anyone successfully done this to reassure me this is worth doing

People have repaired these in the past, there are threads on here detailing what they did, have a search, your sure to turn something up with pictures. You have obviously stripped the outers off and removed the wheel arch liners so well on the way to putting it all right. I was lucky when I did my 1999, low mileage car the outer sills removed pristine inner sills, I got away with cleaning them and then treating them to clear waxoyle, coated the rears of the outers with black waxoyle and put them back together.

Mine is going to require a lot more work than that I'm afraid.

Definitely a cut out and replace job. Luckily father in law is a fabricator and has little quit in him so going to have to consult on his expertise here I think. Going to continue on and get the grinder out with rust disk to see how bad it really is tomorrow evening. It's only really bad at those 2 spots. And the upper side is fine. But they are not nice viewing.

Seen worse than yours, here is a link to a past thread which has pictures of a repair panel made to weld in the rotted out jacking point https://zroadster.org/threads/a-lot-of-muck.19467/
Good you have an expert to help you with the welding and fabrication. After the repair some people don't refit the plastic jacking insert to prevent future rotting from moisture and muck build up under them.

That's a reassuring read! Thanks for sharing. I'll be refitting as its only a dry summer/spring fun car for myself. Will get the grinder attachments purchased tomorrow and see what mess I'm left with. Want it cleaned up as much as possible before showing the father in law. Help hedge his decision on helping my way abit if it doesn't look as bad. Previous owner had isopon top to bottom. Sealing any moisture to just work away. Clown. Oh well. Other side I don't think is as bad. But will know tomorrow

Once you get it all repaired be sure to put some rust preventative in there, I use Waxoyle Clear for the inside, spray it in there along the entire length, a really thick covering, outer inside surface coated with black Waxoyle. Others use some of the other treatments on the market such as Por15 and Dinitrol.

Id looked at the por15 stuff as it seemed bullet proof. That was the road I was going before knew about this. They were always coming off this winter and rust treated anyway. Just had hoped for a better view. But will update on progress. Scrapping is last on my mind atm. Want to fix not just throw in the towel first hiccup so want to try to stay optimistic
