Just Planning ahead on adjusting my shims on my Z3m when my car is off the road around autumn time .
Wondering if anyone has one or alternative options or borrow..
Have googled a few options including home made set done on here , but checking if anyone has one.

Also the actual shims or alternatives links etc..as some say the fiat shims are similar ? But not sure yet what’s needed for now .. but..original bmw prices are shocking..

alternative shims

Was looking at this

or this..

There was a site selling them but was some time ago..

Great guide too…

And great video guide ..

I wonder who did that video :thumbsup:

I don't think the Laser tool would work without modification, and it looks like the metal would be too soft. The out of stock one looks like it would work. I harden the working end as it needs to push down on the two adjacent cups, and unhardened steel just deforms. 3:22 in the video shows the tool in action.

I could loan you my tools.

This is what you need, as well as feeler gauges (and micrometer if you want to check the feeler gauges), a magnet to catch the shims and a blowy thing to blast the shims out of the cups...

The tool in the lid is the one in the video. The silver tool has a hardened tool tip. The blue-black tool is fully hardened.

The circular thing is a crankshaft turning tool. It's heavy and needs a 32mm spanner. You need to accurately turn the crankshaft, and this is the easiest way.

The box is a selection of shims.

Fiat X/19 use the same sized shims, but their range is different to BMW. I can't remember if they are thinner or thicker, but they definitely do 2.75mm, as I bought 3 for £10 in 2016. BMW charged £7 each in 2014.
