Hi y'all, beginning of a new season so Z3 out on the road and the first problem I've noticed is that the passenger door glass drops at the front, not the rear, so assumes an angle and sticks. I can help it drop if I put pressure on the rear edge before it drops, so it goes down straight and freely. Is there likely to be something broken at the rear of the window mechanism that I can replace or repair? I can live with it and to be honest having done nothing to the car all Winter it's my fault, but i know at some stage it will niggle until I strip down the door and I don't want to miss any of this very rare sunny weather.

The rear rail that the glass slides up and down in has a couple bolts that hold it in place. These bolts sometimes work loose allowing the window to go at wierd angles and jam up.

The Z3 is notorious for its plastic window glides wearing out or falling off. When they do, the glass tilts forward, drops at the leading edge, and binds in the runner.

OR

A weakened or twisting regulator can cause the glass to move unevenly, particularly dropping at the front.

OR

Dry guides cause sticking, especially when the door is closed (your symptom: sticks when opening suggests guide friction).
Lubricating the guides with silicone spray (front) and PTFE spray (rear) is a known effective fix.

Best get the door card off and have a look-see.

Thanks Nodzed, just have to work up to taking the card off. Too many other projects and things on-going at present and the last thing I want is the Z3 off the road!
