If you want to share your impressions , memories and pics of any two or three wheels bike, older than 30 years, please don't hesitate!
I had a Vespa tooMy first vehicle was 1964 Vespa GS 160, picture taken at 4.45 in the morning after a Lorry hit it outside the house when the driver fell asleep at the wheel. The only other vehicle hit.....was my brothers’ Moggie 1000 which was written off.

Surprisingly it was all repaired and even had a new seat fitted.
It was a very different world back then, Tony. Somehow 25-30 mph seemed enough. Mind you, with the new speed regulators for new cars due in 2021, 25-30mph may once again be enough. My 60 year old Raleigh could get a new lease of life....I had a Raleigh Runabout before very long it's name was change to "Pushabout"It was dark green and cream. Our local Bobby had one too, with a very large screen and leg guards, God it must've been hellish slow in head wind cos he was a proper old fashioned big bloke Bobby.
Tony.
Famous bike and great photo! Without helmet though...My 1981 Yamaha XT250 first seen on “Rambo first blood “ he was a crap rider but I wouldn’t tell him that,View attachment 98492
It’s very bad and the number of times I had so much pain in my foot from kicking with soft shoesFamous bike and great photo! Without helmet though...![]()
My first one was a 1949 197cc Excelsior in 1961 which I dumped after 4 weeks. I then bought a 1955 Triumph T110 650cc in Bonievile two tone blue of the first model of 1959. In 62/3 I stripped the engine with help of my eldest brother had reborn, different cam, high compression pistons, twin carbs and boy did it go. I only have black & white pics somewhere.Yes, it's hard to believe, but getting the status of vintage or historical vehicle multiplied many times their initial price.
Which is good...they get better with the time, like the scotch.![]()
Some lovely bikes there Geoff. The OEC JAP would be worth a fortune today. My first one was a 1949 197cc Excelsior in 1961 which I dumped after 4 weeks. My elder brothers first bike was a 1932 OEC 700 cc with a JAP V engine his second was a 1950 Triumph Speed Twin. Geoff
Yes Dan, very reliable, never had to take a spanner to it other than normal servicing. It was very smooth running, 5 speed, 4 cylinders horizontally opposed, and 80bhp @7500rpm. They were quite heavy at 265kgs dry weight, but the weight was low down in the frame as the fuel tank was under the seat and not above the engine as in conventional design.Big engine, but reliable, as I heard. 5 speeds, no? What rpm for cruise speed?
