I was down in Portsmouth yesterday and it reached there even though southern England hasn't been mentioned much in the media.

I think rather than the sand causing a glow it filtered the blue light, leaving more red light apparent.

They are saying over here that the "watery sun" today is caused by the forest fires in Portugal & Spain and Sahara sand.
