Does anyone know about the yellow airbag/ seat belt connector under the driver’s seat? I am sure the previous owner has changed this but I am wondering if anyone has seen this before? If so, should I remove the butt connectors and solder the wires? Should the wires be twisted all the way to the yellow connector? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

JayMe

Certainly looks like its been got at before, looks like that part of the loom has been replaced hence the butt connectors. A better job would have been soldered joints and covered with heat shrink for a totally waterproof connection.

100% solder and heatshrink. Those connectors can lead to distruption in the current flow. It's not important with most things, but the airbag circuit needs a 100% perfect current flow all the time, or the airbag light will come on.

The wires don't need to be twisted, but it's best that they are - for the same reason. Twisted wires are more likely to be stable, and not be so affected by movement.

Thanks so much for your reply. When I was younger I would have known that was not correct. This is the best forum available.

You guys are fantastic, Fast reliable responses and easy for an old timer, like me, to understand. Thank you very much, JayMe

I don't think it is incorrect per se. Obviously it's been hacked, but it is an OEM connector. They're for the pretensioners and there were at least two different connector types used just on the pre-facelift cars alone. I bought a pair of seats from someone on this forum and one had the type my car originally had (a flat connector) and the other had the chunkier round/barrel shaped one like plugs into the connector in your photo.

I looked for a replacement pretensioner cable like the 'flat' type I needed for my car's wiring but could not find one anywhere. I ended up swapping the pretensioner cable with my old seat and passing the problem onto somebody else. Happily the person who bought my old seats was using them in a camper and did not need the pretensioners. It worked out well in the end!

Hi John,
I have not found any information on a partial wiring harness so I think I will solder, heat shrink and twist the wires and see what happens.
Thanks for your help,
JayMe
